For young men growing up in America the rite of passage into manhood is often difficult. In an effort to address the growing needs of today’s young men, this video explains how society dictates and even perpetuates unhealthy behaviors such as bullying, repressing emotions, and fighting. Authors William Pollack (Real Boys: Rescuing Our Sons from the Myths of Manhood, Random House 1998) and Michael Thompson (Raising Cain: Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys, Ballentine, 1999) provide insight and discuss ways in which adults can help them through the difficult adolescent years. Schools focusing on non-violent methods for handing aggressive behavior will find this video useful because it brings to light serious concerns that have gone unexamined.... What school administrators and school resource officers can gain from this film is the necessity to take some kind of action to address the violent issues plaguing our nation. The film’s Web site and other resources are presented.
